Do you know the raw materials for activated carbon and how to produce?

1, What is the raw materials for activated carbon?
The raw materials
for the production of activated carbon are roughly divided into two categories:
- plant-based (such as wood, fruit shells)
- mineral-based (such as coal,asphalt, petroleum coke).
Among them, plant-based raw materials can be directly carbonized under certain conditions after screening without pulverization;
Mineral-based raw materials are firstly crushed and ground and added with
appropriate amount of binder.
2, The manufacturing method of activated carbon generally has several steps as follows:
(1) Raw material processing: According to different raw materials and usage requirements, the raw materials containing carbon are generally firstly screened initially to remove impurities and ground, and selected binder (such as coal tar) is added, and then shaped into the required shape (generally 1~4mm column or granule) and dried or oxidized into the initial raw material.
(2) Carbonization process: Generally carried out under the condition of lack of air, carbonized at 400~500℃ to remove most of the volatiles and sintered to obtain intermediate products with sufficient strength.
(3) Activation process: In order to obtain activated carbon products with outstanding adsorption capacity, it is necessary to go through an activation process, which is carried out at 800~1000°C using water vapor or carbon dioxide to partially oxidize the carbonized material in order to produce a larger porosity and specific surface area. After activation, it is then sieved and packaged as a finished product.
Commercial activated carbon mainly includes two kinds of activated carbon: coal activated carbon and shell activated carbon.
